Chapter

11

Frank Fox closed the door to his house locking it. He stretched on his front porch and did a couple jumping jacks getting limbered up. He pulled up a hoody to deal with the brisk morning and started his run. Frank made his way around the town getting a few miles under his feet. He stopped at a coffee shop and bought a cup of black coffee. He went to check his messages and look over his daily briefing on his email and realized in his hurry to get out of the house he’d forgotten the damn phone. He looked at the wall seeing a payphone but decided nothing earth shattering would happen in the few minutes it took him to get home. He slammed the coffee and put a bit more into his run on the way home realizing he was already running late.

Frank rounded the corner to his house and when he saw it he dove behind a tree. He watched as a group of men exited a beat up van and spread out walking around the house with assault rifles hanging from their sides. The sun was just beginning to peak out over the horizon. He squinted watching and a few minutes later they came out looking disgusted.

Frank waiting until the van pulled away and then he walked through the neighbor’s side yard checking his place trying to remember if four or five men had gone inside. He knew that only four had made their way back out. He waited an extra half hour and when he couldn’t see anyone making movements inside he ran for the house and straight back to his room where he could grab his gun. He found his phone as well and hit the message button. He listened as a frantic Tony Baker spat out a message that was hard to understand but the words Allah’s Hand were very simple and clear as well as, “They are coming for you Frank, you and Gabriel.”

Frank’s heart jumped a bit at the mention of Gabriel. Tony had said he would call him next. In a sick little bit of satisfaction, Frank decided he felt fine with them going after Gabriel. It would mean he no longer had to worry about Gabriel coming after him if he ever changed his mind. He grabbed a few things from his home and rushed out making his way towards work. Frank never noticed the other unmarked car following him.

Tony hit the end button on the phone shaking his head. He called and left the same message for Frank on his phone at the office. He knew he normally slept with the phone so he was rattled when he didn’t answer. There was every possibility that he was too late and Frank wasn’t alive to answer the call. He dialed Gabriel’s number wondering what he would say if he answered. The phone rang and when he got the voicemail Tony said, “Hey Jac … I mean Gabriel. It’s Baker.
